Fast forward to my first job out of college. I entered the exciting world of answering phones and pushing papers. I got to leave my cubicle from time to time to attend soul crushing meetings.

I Want to Work and Live on My Own Terms

It’s not that I hate rules or can’t get along with others. I just don’t want to be subject to the managerial whims of others. I could never care what the cover sheet of a TPS report looks like. Starting my own business gives me the chance to create the ideal job for myself.

I Like the Idea of Unlimited Earning Potential

I don’t have unrealistic expectations about owning a business. Being the boss isn’t a license to print money. That said, being somebody’s employee is probably not going to be a faster path to wealth than owning a successful business.

I’d Like to Have a Greater Sense of Accomplishment at Work

I do like what I’m doing now, don’t get me wrong. But there’s only so much gratification I can take from contributing to the good of the company. As an employee with no equity, I feel like my efforts go further toward rewarding the owners than me. As a business owner, my decisions and my efforts have a direct impact on my bottom line. I’d get much more personal satisfaction out of that.

So There You Have It…

I’m difficult, greedy, selfish, and egotistical. Perfect recipe for success as a business owner, right?
